My investigation was exploring how I could evoke childhood memories and sensations within the viewers through my art.
Firstly, I personally believe that humans are the most dynamic and fascinating subject to show through art. I wanted to paint them to improve my painting skills. I knew the best subjects would be the people closest in my life. I began searching through old photographs to find imagery to work from. In doing so, I realized it was the memories of my past and those moment with my family and friends as what defines me. When I began to paint, I only painted realistic pictures. While these were nice in expression, I knew that surreal or impressionistic styles could better capture the feelings that I had re-lived in looking at the photos. I slowly improved upon this type of painting, eventually making some paintings that perfectly captured what I remembered and felt. My sustained investigations transitioned into depicting my childhood to evoke memories and feelings in the viewer. I knew it was working when the view would recall their own memories.
